Santa Train returns to Allen County<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

50 years ago, Santa Claus arrived in Fort Wayne by train for downtown Fort Wayne’s annual Christmas celebrations. In December, Santa returns to the area aboard the 2010 Santa Train.<\/p>\n

Once an event sponsored by Fort Wayne landmark store Wolf & Dessauer, the Santa Train will operate December 4th, 11th, and 18th at 15808 Edgerton Road in New Haven. Departing the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society’s restoration facility, these 30 minute trips will give children the opportunity to take a trip back in time and visit with Santa Claus aboard a 100 year old wooden caboose and vintage diesel locomotive.<\/p>\n

Families can pay homage to a great Fort Wayne tradition and create brand new ones while visiting the home of the largest operating steam locomotive in the midwest: Nickel Plate Road no. 765. Once on display in Lawton Park, the 1944-built 765 is a fast freight and passenger machine, completely restored into a living time machine that operates excursions throughout the country. The 765 is the centerpiece of a conceptual downtown redevelopment plan called Headwaters Junction that offers to recreate a corner of the city circa 1940s in a colorful and enriching regional attraction.<\/p>\n

Tickets for all ages are $4 and trips run on a first come first serve basis during the day between 10am and 4pm. Families can also charter an hour long evening train ride with Santa accompanied by music, refreshments and gift giving with Santa himself for $200 between 6 and 8pm each Saturday. Reservations for charters are required.<\/p><\/blockquote>\nngg_shortcode_1_placeholder\n
