Padres announce Minor League Coaching Staffs<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(SAN DIEGO) – The San Diego Padres today announced the staffs for their minor league affiliates as well as the club’s roving instructors for the 2011 season.<\/p>\n

Terry Kennedy remains with the Padres Triple-A affiliate, relocating to Tucson in 2011, entering his second season as the Triple-A manager. Prior to joining Portland in 2010, Kennedy managed at Double-A San Antonio in 2009 and served as the Missions hitting coach in 2008. The former All-Star catcher for the Padres previously managed the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the Golden Baseball League in 2005, earning Manager of the Year honors in the league’s inaugural season. He also spent six seasons as a minor league manager with the St. Louis Cardinals (1993), Montreal Expos (1994), Chicago Cubs (1997-99) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2004) organizations. Steve Webber remains pitching coach for the Padres Triple-A affiliate while Bob Skube makes the jump from Single-A Lake Elsinore to join Tucson as hitting coach. Wade Yamasaki remains with the Triple-A affiliate as athletic trainer, entering his 12th season in the Padres organization.<\/p>\n

Doug Dascenzo will manage at Double-A San Antonio for the second consecutive year. He first joined the Missions following a 94-46 record and Midwest League championship as manager of Single-A Fort Wayne in 2009. Following the 2009 campaign, Dascenzo was named the Midwest League’s Best Manager Prospect by Baseball America. Jimmy Jones will join Dascenzo as pitching coach, following two years in the same role with the Padres Rookie-level affiliate in Peoria. Tom Tornincasa returns as hitting coach for the Missions, a role he held in 2007 prior to three years as hitting coach at Single-A Fort Wayne. Nathan Stewart enters his sixth season as an athletic trainer with the Padres, jumping from Fort Wayne to San Antonio.<\/p>\n

Carlos Lezcano returns for his fifth season as manager of Single-A Lake Elsinore, after leading the Storm to four consecutive playoff appearances in the California League from 2007-10. Lezcano also managed San Diego’s Rookie-level affiliate from 2003-06 and enters his 19th season as a minor league manager. Lezcano is joined by pitching coach Bronswell Patrick, who is serving as pitching coach for his fourth Padres affiliate in four seasons. Former Padre Phil Plantier joins the Storm as hitting coach in 2011. Plantier spent the 2010 season as minor league hitting coordinator for the Seattle Mariners. Will Sinon comes back for his fifth campaign as Lake Elsinore’s athletic trainer and 14th in the Padres organization.<\/p>\n

Shawn Wooten takes the reigns as manager of Single-A Fort Wayne after a year as hitting coach for Eugene in 2010. His 2010 season also marked his coaching debut, following 14 seasons playing professional baseball. Wooten is joined by Willie Blair and Kory DeHaan, who will serve as pitching coach and hitting coach, respectively. Athletic trainer Daniel Turner jumps from Eugene to Fort Wayne after one year with the Emeralds.<\/p>\n

Pat Murphy joins the Padres minor league staff as manager at Single-A Eugene in 2011. Murphy came to the Padres prior to the 2010 campaign after a 15-year tenure as head coach at Arizona State University. As a college coach at ASU (1995-2009), Notre Dame (1988-94), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (1986-87) and Maryville College (1983), Murphy held a 1000-457-4 career coaching record. His staff will also include pitching coach Dave Rajsich, who was with Lake Elsinore in 2010, and hitting coach Chris Prieto. Zach Jones will serve as athletic trainer for the Emeralds.<\/p>\n

The Rookie-level Peoria Padres will be skippered by Jim Gabella next season. Gabella comes to the Padres after six seasons managing the Burlington Bees, the Midwest League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Joining his staff will be pitching coach Nelson Cruz and hitting coach Ivan Cruz. Ivan managed the Peoria squad in 2010, making his managerial debut in his first season with the Padres. Also joining the Peoria staff is Tim Worrell, who will serve as rehab pitching coach. Ricky Huerta will serve as athletic trainer for the Rookie level Padres.<\/p>\n

Evaristo Lantigua remains Coordinator of Latin American Instruction\/Field Manager of the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League Padres. Lantigua enters his fifth season with the organization after serving as manager for the Oakland A’s Dominican Summer League team for 12 seasons. Jose Amancio enters his fourth season as the DSL Padres pitching coach, with Juan Rosario returning in his second year as assistant pitching
\ncoach. Hitting coach Christian Reyes returns for his fifth year and is joined by Jose Guillen. Alessandro Bertozzo enters his third season as athletic trainer for the DSL Padres and is joined by Juan Cabrera, who will serve as assistant athletic trainer.<\/p>\n

San Diego’s minor league roving instructors for 2011 will consist of Field Coordinator Randy Johnson, Pitching Coordinator Mike Couchee, Hitting Coordinator Sean Berry, Infield Coordinator Gary Jones, Outfield\/Baserunning Coordinator Glen Barker, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Dan Morrison, Rehab Coordinator Ryan Bitzel and Medical Coordinator Joseph Tarantino.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
