Pigs Loose On Toll Road<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(Porter County, IN – November 2, 2010) – A semi tractor-trailer hauling pigs rolled over on the Indiana Toll Road, late yesterday morning, freeing a number of the pigs onto the ramp and side of the road.<\/p>\n

At approximately 11: 42 am, yesterday, a 2003 Volvo semi, operated by Steve’s Livestock out of Manitoba, Canada, and driven by Jakob Konn, 26 of Manitoba, Canada, was west bound on I-90 (Indiana Toll Road) at the 20 mile marker (this is approximately 2 \u00c2\u00bd miles west of the Portage Toll).. Konn exited to the west bound Toll Road ramp to go east on I-94 when he took the ramp too fast, lost control as it came around a curve, and the semi tractor-trailer fell approximately twenty-five feet below onto the I-94 to I-90 west bound ramp. The tractor separated from the trailer, and the trailer completely blocked the I-94 to I-90 west bound ramp.<\/p>\n

There were seventy-nine pigs on the trailer. A number of the pigs escaped from the overturned trailer and were wandering on the ramp and grassy area separating the ramp from the I-90 west bound traffic.<\/p>\n

A total of twenty-nine pigs died.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_1_placeholder\n

Animal hauler trailers were brought in to load the surviving pigs onto them.<\/p>\n

NOTE- The I-90 westbound to I-80\/94 exit at the 20.7 mile marker is closed for an undetermined amount of time due to structural damage done from the semi when it fell off the ramp. Those motorists using that exit for their commute will have to exit off at the Portage or I-65 exit heading west bound until further notice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
