State Vital Records Office to Stay Open On Election Day To Assist Voters In Getting State ID<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(INDIANAPOLIS, October 29, 2010) – The State Vital Records Office’s walk-in service, located at 6 West Washington Street in downtown Indianapolis, will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (EDT) to accommodate individuals seeking to get birth certificates. The walk-in service is normally closed on Mondays and will be closed on Monday, Nov. 1.<\/p>\n

Public Law 109-2005 requires Indiana residents to present photo ID before casting a ballot at the polls on Election Day. A birth certificate can be used in order to apply for state identification from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.<\/p>\n

Individuals wanting birth certificates can obtain them at the local health department for the county in which they were born or at the Indiana State Department of Health. Not all local health departments will be open on Election Day, so individuals should call ahead before visiting their local health department on Election Day.<\/p>\n

For more information about ordering birth certificates from either the State Department of Health or local health departments, call (317) 234-3267 or visit the Indiana State Department of Health Website at www.statehealth.in.gov and click on “Birth and Death Certificates.”<\/p>\n

According to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, all full-service license branches will be open to issue driver’s licenses and ID cards from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (local time) on Election Day. In addition, the full-service branches will be open on Monday, Nov. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles branches are normally closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n
