Phase III of IPFW’s Student Housing Dedicated<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) officials, area elected officials, students, faculty, and staff were on hand this morning, to dedicate Phase III of the university’s student housing project.<\/p>\n

IPFW Chancellor Michael Wartell noted the campus has undergone a major change since the first housing units opened in 2004. “We always knew that students attending IPFW received a top notch education; now, with the continued growth of our student housing, we’re assured our students get the “whole college” experience by living on campus. With Phase III we’ve tried to answer the students’ needs by adding classrooms in the Club House. We also have a state-of-the-art fitness center; and for those prospective residents, a model apartment is located right here.”<\/p>\n

Some of the new amenities included in Phase III include washers and dryers in the individual apartments, and new floor plans, including one with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Sara Garcia, IPFW housing director, said students specifically asked for that option which allows two students to share a large bedroom with an attached bathroom. The other two roommates get separate bedrooms and share a bathroom.<\/p>\n

Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs Walt Branson said the $31.5 million project got underway early in 2009 and is made up of four residential buildings, a maintenance building, plus the Club House, with a total of 202-thousand square feet of space. Total capacity between all three phases is 1,204 students.<\/p>\n
