IPFW Mental Health Day Open to the Public<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone experiences stress, sadness, and anxiety from time to time – it’s part of life. But when changes in mood and behavior interfere with one’s ability to function normally, it could be a sign of depression. According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), nearly half of all college students report feeling so depressed at some point in time that they have difficulty functioning. The APA also reports that one out of four young adults will experience a depressive episode by age 24, and that 50 percent of people with an eating disorder meet the criteria for depression.<\/p>\n

Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) wants to make sure people know that they don’t need to suffer in silence. The university is hosting IPFW Mental Health Day on Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Walb Student Union, first floor, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

IPFW Mental Health Day will include an education\/information fair, individualized depression and anxiety screenings with a mental health professional, a “brain food table,” and a “de-stress zone.” Also, a “laughter yoga” session will be offered at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
