Phew! \u00c2\u00a0What a week ahead. \u00c2\u00a0In addition to the usual City Council and Board of Public Works meetings, there are several other events I hope to cover this week. \u00c2\u00a0Please look either later in the evening or the next day for coverage on the blog. \u00c2\u00a0Remember, I do this because I love covering these events, not because I get paid so if something doesn’t happen, it’s not because I didn’t want to. \u00c2\u00a0Without further ado, here’s the list:<\/p>\n

To Be Announced<\/strong><\/p>\n

At some point this week, there will be a press conference to discuss and officially kick off a fund-raising campaign for a lighting project at the Historic Wells Street Bridge. \u00c2\u00a0This is a beautiful project and I cannot wait for it to become a reality! \u00c2\u00a0More information<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0Updated<\/strong> @ 10:30 am on 9\/22\/2008: I’ve received word this has been moved to next week.<\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

There might also be an addition to the on-going series on the proposed Tax Abatement Ordinance changes by Councilwomen Liz Brown and Karen Goldner. \u00c2\u00a0I’m not going to promise anything definite on this one as it’s still in the development stages. \u00c2\u00a0Updated\u00c2\u00a0@ 10:30 am on 9\/22\/2008: I am in the process of setting this up – it will happen later this week.<\/p>\n

Monday<\/strong><\/p>\n

Redevelopment Commission meets in a special session to approve Parkview Health’s Letter of Intent concerning the naming rights for Parkview Field. \u00c2\u00a0Also, they will be approving the transfer of the property for the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel into the developer’s hands. \u00c2\u00a0Details are here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also, sometime today I hope to have the Harrison Square budget figures and Hardball Capital contribution information requested last week. \u00c2\u00a0If you didn’t follow that saga, you may read the posts here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tuesday<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before the Fort Wayne City Council meeting, from 3:30 pm to 5 pm at the Grand Wayne Center, Carl Walker representatives will be holding a public input session to gather input on implementing a parking authority for downtown. \u00c2\u00a0More information<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Fort Wayne City Council meets tonight at 5:30 pm. \u00c2\u00a0A link to the agenda along with any highlights will be posted as soon as it’s available. \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wednesday<\/strong><\/p>\n

A second session with the Carl Walker representatives at the Grand Wayne Center, this time between 9 am and 10 am.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0More information<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n

Senator Richard Lugar and Citilink will be unveiling a new Hybrid Bus Demo unit. \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s a\u00c2\u00a0local collaboration that \u00c2\u00a0will assess the benefits of a hybrid retrofit drive in a small transit bus application. \u00c2\u00a0Anticipated benefits include, but are not limited to: increased fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, improved brake performance, low voltage\/light weight ultra capacitor, ease of use\/installation and transferability of product.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Jorge Gonzalez Fundraiser at Headwaters Park. \u00c2\u00a0Dan or myself will be posting information about this later this week. \u00c2\u00a0Jorge is a teenager who needs a kidney transplant. \u00c2\u00a0Unfortunately, the hospital will not do it until another $80,000 is raised. \u00c2\u00a0It should be a great time with traditional Hispanic entertainment and food!<\/p>\n
