What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory in October<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Greek Family Event<\/strong>: Saturday, October 2, 10 am – 3 pm
\nFamily was very important to the ancient Greeks. Bring your family to the Conservatory to learn about ancient Greece and its people. What did they eat? What did they do for fun? What’s the deal with EVOO anyway? You be the judge at our olive oil tasting station. Pet live sheep and goats as you learn how these animals were important to the Greeks. Listen to a lesson from Aesop’s fables. Jump and run in some Olympic type activities. We will explore Greek culture and when you’re done you can say it IS all Greek to me! Admission is $5\/adult, $3\/child age 3-17, free for children 2 and under. Sponsored by Fun 101.7 WLDE, WANE-TV, and Media 401. For more information, call (260) 427-6440.<\/p>\n

$1 Night<\/strong>: Thursday, October 7, 5 – 8 pm
\nAdmission to the Conservatory is just $1 from 5 – 8 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Visit during those hours and pay only $1 per person, adult or child. (Ages 2 and under are still admitted free.) Enjoy the Greek Garden exhibit as well as the Tropical and Desert Gardens.<\/p>\n

The Rocky Horror Picture Show<\/strong>: Saturday, October 23, Doors Open 8 pm; Movie 9:15 pm
\nLet’s do the time warp agaaaaain! As a part of the Downtown Improvement District’s Fright Night the Conservatory will once again spin the tale of Brad and Janet on a rainy night sheltered by the bizarre Dr. Frank N. Furter. The movie will be shown outside on the Terrace, weather permitting. Please dress accordingly. Refresh ments will be available for purchase. This movie is participatory in tradition and content may not be suitable for all\/younger audiences. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Artist Exhibits<\/strong>: Through October
\nHarry Hannie – Harry enjoys working with soft pastels on sanded paper. He is a full time truck driver and a self-taught part time artist. He has lived his whole life here in Fort Wayne except for his service in the Marine Corps. He and his family enjoy camping and other outdoor activities. He hopes that his love for the outdoors and peaceful natu ral settings is conveyed in his artwork.<\/p>\n

Angela Applegate — Angela is the mother of a grown son and has loved photography since she first took photos for her high school yearbook. This year her pho tograph titled “Heaven and Earth” was published in Photographer’s Forum Magazine as a finalist in its 30th Annual College Photography Con test. Angela is an Art Specialist for Fort Wayne Community Schools where she has taught for 18 years.<\/p>\n

Greek Garden Exhibit<\/strong>: Through November 14
\nVisit the Conservatory during our garden exhibit celebrating ancient Greek culture. The rocky terrain supports familiar herbs as well as shrubs and trees like figs, olive, and palms. But this Mediterranean themed garden is just a backdrop for the story of a people who worked and played, fought and feasted where the sea meets the land. Come find out why the wisdom of this ancient culture has had such a tremendous impact on modern life. Sponsored by Media 401, Fun 101.7 WLDE and WANE-TV. Create and Donate a Pi\u00c3\u00b1ata for Pi\u00c3\u00b1ata Paradise<\/strong>: Through November 12
\nPi\u00c3\u00b1atas are a traditional party favorite in Mexi can culture, used at birthdays, Christmas par ties, and other celebrations. Every holiday season, the Conservatory displays pi\u00c3\u00b1atas in the Desert Garden, designed and decorated by area children, community groups, and folks who just want to share the holiday spirit. At the end of the display, the candy-filled creations are donated to local children’s agencies for their holiday cel ebrations.
