In today’s Sunday Interviews installment, we talk with Wayne Township Trustee Rick Stevenson, his challenger Timothy Smith and Wayne Township Assessor Bev Zuber.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

To clarify, the interviews were recorded earlier. \u00c2\u00a0This is called the ‘Sunday Interview Series’ simply because that’s the day of the week they are released.<\/p>\n

The featured race for today is that of the Wayne Township Trustee. \u00c2\u00a0Currently, Rick Stevenson, Democrat, holds the office. \u00c2\u00a0He is being challenged by Republican newcomer Timothy Smith who has worked in the Wayne Township Trustee office and various other social service agencies.<\/p>\n

Two years ago, in the 2008 General Election, the Wayne Township electorate was given the choice of keeping their assessor, or having the County Assessor take over the responsibility. \u00c2\u00a0The vote was 14,414 (53.09%) to keep the Assessor and 12,737 (46.91%) against. \u00c2\u00a0Aboite (54.05%) and St. Joe Townships (55.72%) voted to do away with their Assessor. \u00c2\u00a0The question on the ballot was the result of the Shepherd-Kernan report or the Local Government Reform Commission which examined local government to determine what cuts could be made. \u00c2\u00a0Since then as well, the State has beefed up requirements for those wishing to run for the Assessor position. \u00c2\u00a0Even though she is unopposed, I think you’ll find the interview with her enlightening.<\/p>\n

Next week, at least one of the State level races will be featured. \u00c2\u00a0As usual, there is the poll question to the right of this post asking who you’ll be voting for in the Wayne Township Trustee race.<\/p>\n
