IPFW Hosts Bus Trip to Chicago Shakespeare Theater<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(September 3, 2010) – Michael Stapleton, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) Chapman Distinguished Professor English, will host a bus trip to the Shakespeare Theater on Chicago’s Navy Pier on Oct. 23, 2010. This is a one-day trip which will include the performance of Romeo and Juliet, as well time for shopping, sightseeing and lunch. Professor Stapleton, who teaches and publishes about works of Shakespeare, will give a brief introductory lecture about the play en route to Chicago.<\/p>\n

William Shakespeare’s most famous play is Romeo and Juliet, a passionate tragedy about young, star-crossed love. Romeo and Juliet try to forge their bond in spite of their warring and disapproving families and their own inexperience. Shakespeare’s original audience had to decide how empathetic it should be with this adolescent couple and attempt to understand their parents’ point of view as well. It is easy to understand the play’s enduring popularity and frequent performance over four centuries, as well as its importance to students of all ages.<\/p>\n

The bus leaves on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. and returns at 11 p.m. that evening. The performance is at 3 p.m. The fee is $99, which includes bus fare, matinee ticket, and presentation. Lunch is on the individual. IPFW students can go for $89, and IPFW alumni and staff for $79. To receive either discount call 260-481-6619.<\/p>\n
