FWCS will honor Teacher of the Year Michelle White<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne Community Schools will have a reception for Teacher of the Year Michelle White at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the cafeteria at the Grile Administrative Center. White is a seventh-grade language arts teacher at Northwood Middle School.<\/p>\n

White was selected as Teacher of the Year because of her ability to find connections to students and reach out to them at a time when many students are challenged by their changing lives. She stresses creating a sense of community in her classroom by sharing stories about herself and her family and encouraging students to share their experiences as well.<\/p>\n

Teacher of the Year finalists Carolyn Bookmyer, English Language Learner teacher at Shawnee Middle School, Joy Forbes, first-grade teacher at Forest\u00c2\u00a0Park Elementary, and Kurt Tippmann, math teacher at Snider High School, will also be honored.<\/p>\n

Also on Monday, the FWCS Board of School Trustees will hear a public presentation of the 2010 budget. Chief Financial Officer Kathy Friend will present a report on the district’s eight funds: General, Racial Balance, Capital Projects, Transportation, Bus Replacement, Debt Service, Pension Bond and Museum of Art. \u00c2\u00a0(Webmaster’s note<\/strong>: This meeting begins at 6 pm.)<\/p>\n

Two weeks after the initial presentation, the public will have a chance to comment on the proposed budget at the public hearing on Sept. 27. School board members will take action on the budget on Oct. 11.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
