Tom Rush and Country Joe McDonald<\/strong>, legendary songwriters

In a moderated format with acoustic musical elements, Tom Rush and\u00c2\u00a0Country Joe McDonald discuss how music was used as an outlet for social\u00c2\u00a0commentary and protest in the 1960s, and society’s response to\u00c2\u00a0national issues today. Rush helped shape the folk music revival in the\u00c2\u00a0’60s and its renaissance in the ’80s and ’90s. McDonald’s\u00c2\u00a0music straddles the two polar events of the ’60s \u00e2\u20ac\u201dWoodstock and the\u00c2\u00a0Vietnam War. Both qualify as legends, and they are two of the best known\u00c2\u00a0names from the ’60s rock era still performing.<\/p>\n

The Astin lecture is the only presentation this season that will\u00c2\u00a0require tickets. ALL TICKETS ARE FREE AND WILL BE AVAILABLE BEGINNING\u00c2\u00a0MONDAY, AUGUST 30. Tickets MUST be picked up in person at the Schatzlein\u00c2\u00a0Box Office in the lobby of The Rhinehart Music Center, Monday through\u00c2\u00a0Friday, noon-6:30 p.m. Tickets will hold seats until 7:15 p.m. on the\u00c2\u00a0day of the event. Thereafter, all unoccupied seats will be released for\u00c2\u00a0stand-by patrons.<\/p>\n

IPFW is grateful for the support of the Omnibus Lecture series founding\u00c2\u00a0sponsor, the English, Bonter, Mitchell Foundation, and media sponsors\u00c2\u00a0WANE-TV NewsChannel 15 and Northeast Indiana Public Radio. Each lecture will be held on the IPFW campus in The John and Ruth\u00c2\u00a0Rhinehart Music Center’s 1,600-seat Auer Performance Hall. All\u00c2\u00a0lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m. There is no\u00c2\u00a0charge for the events and parking is free. However, due to campus\u00c2\u00a0construction affecting access to and parking near the Rhinehart Music Center, patrons are advised to arrive early, allowing additional time\u00c2\u00a0for traffic and parking.<\/p>\n

The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center is located on the north end of\u00c2\u00a0campus in the arts plaza next to the Ernest E. Williams Theatre and the\u00c2\u00a0Visual Arts Building, and behind the Medical Education Center.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
