Tonight, Fort Wayne City Council approved $1 million Legacy Fort Wayne funding to support infrastructure improvements in the proposed new neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Additional support for roads, sidewalks and utilities will come from a $1.089 million READI grant from the Indiana Economic Development Authority and an approximately $1.2 million loan to be repaid through lot sales and tax increment financing (TIF). The TIF funding is expected to receive final approval at the October Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Local real estate and construction company LegacyOne, Inc., owned by Linda Golden, is developing the neighborhood located at 2700 Elmdale Dr. The $24 million development will include a mix of 74 single\u2011family homes, duplexes, townhomes, and zero\u2011lot\u2011line units priced between $186,000 and $325,000, which aligns with needs and priorities documented in the Southeast Fort Wayne Housing Market Needs Assessment and the Southeast Strategy Update.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to see Victory Gardens reach this important milestone,\u201d said Community Development Director Jonathan Leist. \u201cHousing continues to be a top priority for Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and this development helps expand access to homeownership opportunities and encourages additional housing development by signaling market confidence in Southeast Fort Wayne.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Infrastructure construction in Victory Gardens is expected to begin before the end of the year and housing construction will occur in phases over three years. Project partners include Habitat for Humanity, Fort Wayne Housing Authority, Realtist Association of Northeast Indiana, Covenant Concepts, Legacy Community Development Corporation and Centier Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Economic impact projections show that the 74\u2011home development could support approximately 322 jobs and produce more than $5.2 million in state and local tax revenue. The project prioritizes local labor and emerging, minority\u2011 and women\u2011owned contractors, reinforcing local workforce capacity and keeping Legacy Fund dollars circulating within Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The City of Fort Wayne\u2019s Community Development Division works to establish Fort Wayne as the Community of Choice for residents, visitors and businesses by growing the economy, strengthening neighborhoods and supporting housing options.
