Gov. Braun Urges Hoosiers to Prepare for Potential Severe Weather This Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

Indianapolis, Indiana (August 11, 2026) \u2013 Governor Mike Braun today encouraged Hoosiers to take simple steps to prepare their families and protect their property as parts of Indiana could see severe weather this week.<\/p>\n

“Indiana has seen an active severe weather season, and this week’s forecast is a good reminder that preparation matters,” said Gov. Braun. “Take a few minutes to make sure your family has multiple ways to receive weather alerts, a disaster kit ready to go and a plan for where to take shelter if strong storms move through your area. Those simple steps can make all the difference.”<\/p>\n

This week’s forecast follows one of the most active severe weather seasons in Indiana history. The state has recorded 81 tornadoes so far this year, including 58 in June alone.<\/p>\n

Gov. Braun remains committed to helping Hoosiers recover from this summer’s severe weather while ensuring the state is prepared to respond. Following the June storms that produced dozens of tornadoes and widespread flooding, Gov. Braun declared a state disaster emergency covering 63 counties and directed state agencies to support impacted communities.<\/p>\n

The state also worked alongside FEMA to assess storm damage, and Gov. Braun signed a formal request for a presidential disaster declaration to seek additional federal assistance for affected communities. Indiana’s Emergency Operations Center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and remains ready to support counties whenever severe weather strikes.<\/p>\n

While severe weather cannot be prevented, preparation can help protect lives and property.<\/p>\n
