Fort Wayne Wins Sixth of Last Seven and Takes a Share of Series<\/strong><\/p>\n

Midland, Michigan (July 31, 2026) \u2013 The Fort Wayne TinCaps held the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers affiliate) to just two hits in a 5-2 win Friday night at Dow Diamond.<\/p>\n

Both teams were held scoreless for the first five innings before TinCaps (44-55.17-16) right fielder Alex McCoy (No. 19 Padres prospect) drove his Midwest League-leading double down the left field line to score Justin DeCriscio in the sixth inning. McCoy reached each of the final four times to the plate, adding a pair of singles, a walk and a pair of stolen bases. The 2024 undrafted free agent is now just one of four Midwest League players with 90-plus hits this season. His team-leading 26th multi-hit game of the year was his sixth three-hit game of the season. McCoy leads the team with 50 RBI this season.<\/p>\n

Right-handed starting pitcher Maikel Miralles did not allow a base hit across his first five innings pitched but was taken out of the game after three consecutive walks to start the sixth inning. Great Lakes (55-42, 19-14) tied the game on a passed ball before a Nico Perez sacrifice fly gave them a 2-1 lead.<\/p>\n

The ‘Caps then loaded the bases in the seventh with nobody out but could only score one, taking the lead on a double play off the bat of DeCriscio. In the eighth, Fort Wayne added on three more on a wild pitch, an RBI double by Rosman Verdugo, RBI single by Kasen Wells.<\/p>\n

Right-handed pitcher shut the door to end the sixth inning before a scoreless seventh, earning the win. Four-year TinCap Will Varmette earned his save of the season not allowing a run on one hit in the final two innings.<\/p>\n
