Allen County to Finalize Creation of Unified Fire & EMS District<\/strong><\/p>\n

Allen County, Indiana (July 2, 2026) \u2013 The Allen County Board of Commissioners will consider two ordinances next Friday that would complete the final stage in a multi-year and multi-step process to unify Fire and EMS agencies across the county. On Friday, July 10, 2026, two Fire Ordinances will appear before the Commissioners during a meeting of their regularly scheduled Legislative Session.<\/p>\n

The first ordinance proposes a name change to the Northeast Allen County Fire Protection District<\/a> to the new title of \u201cAllen County Fire & EMS District.\u201d The second ordinance<\/a> amends the documents that formed the original fire districts to create one unified fire and EMS district covering the incorporated and unincorporated areas outside of Fort Wayne. If approved, the new, unified district would begin operation on January 1, 2027.<\/p>\n

A copy of the ordinances is on the Allen County webpage<\/a> for the public to inspect. The Commissioners welcome residents\u2019 feedback and will accept public input from today until 12:00 PM (noon) on Thursday, July 9, 2026.Call 260-449-7555 or email boardofcommissioners@allencounty.in.gov<\/a> to submit responses.<\/p>\n

For the last two years, Allen County\u2019s various fire districts and fire territory, in coordination with the Allen County Board of Commissioners, have undertaken a coordinated, countywide planning effort to align services and to bring all participating districts and territories together into one unified Fire & EMS district. The unified district will serve unincorporated Allen County townships, and any incorporated cities and towns that choose to join the district. The goal of unification is to improve consistency, strengthen emergency response, and ensure Allen County residents receive the highest level of service while protecting firefighter safety, training, and professional standards.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
