Major tasks include conducting Safety Inspections, New Entrant Safety Audits, and Compliance Reviews to ensure compliance with equipment and hours-of-service regulations.<\/p>\n<p>CVED is also tasked with enforcing Indiana\u2019s size and weight laws and ensuring that commercial carriers are properly registered and paying their fair share of fuel tax dollars. Additionally, they assist in the investigation of commercial vehicle crashes (post-crash inspections) and manage the annual school bus inspection program.<\/p>\n<p>From March 1-31, 2026, because of their enforcement efforts, ISP CVED accomplished the following:<\/p>\n<p>Total CMV Inspections Completed \u2013 4,705<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total Out of Service Drivers \u2013 499<\/li>\n<li>Total Out of Service Vehicles \u2013 579<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Total Number of Oversize Violations \u2013 34<\/p>\n<p>Total Number of Overweight Violations \u2013 174<\/p>\n<p>ISP CVED Personnel participated in the annual March portion of the International Fuel Tax\/International Registration Plan Law Enforcement Advisor Committee\u2019s (LEAC) M&#038;M Blitz.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide IFTA permits, Unified Carrier Registrations, and IRP plates (both required for interstate commerce) typically expire on December 31st of each year but have a 90-day grace period. The provides a 90-day window for motor carriers to come into compliance with \u201csoft enforcement.\u201d Soft enforcement means that unless there is an egregious violation, a warning is typically issued, and the violation is documented on an inspection report.<\/p>\n<p>Annually, beginning April 1st more strict enforcement begins. The LEAC March blitz serves to gauge the level of compliance leading up to the end of the grace period on March 31st. ISP will again participate in second, May, blitz period to identify the level of compliance after \u201chard\u201d enforcement begins. The following is CVED activity for the March blitz:<\/p>\n<p>IFTA\/IPR Required Vehicles Checked &#8211; 1,239<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-IFTA\/IRP Required Vehicles &#8211; 223<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IFTA Violations<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-registered &#8211; 17<\/li>\n<li>Non-renewal, missing decals &#8211; 81<\/li>\n<li>No IFTA licenses in possession &#8211; 16<\/li>\n<li>Fraudulent, suspended or revoked &#8211; 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IRP Violations (all) &#8211; 39<br \/>\nUCR Violations (all) &#8211; 22<br \/>\nNumber of Trucks Checked for Dyed Fuel &#8211; 76<br \/>\nDyed Fuel Violations Found &#8211; 1<\/p>\n<p>ISP CVED\u2019s enforcement efforts are part of Governor Braun\u2019s public safety platform to ensure safe environments to travel, work and live for all Hoosiers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Related Images:<\/h3><div class=\"ngg-related-gallery\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/gallery\/in\/trooper_noone.jpg\"\n\t\t\ttitle=\"Indiana State Police Trooper Chris Noone.
