The work will help make our community safer.

The funding will come from the FY26 Commerce-Justice-Science/Energy-Water Development/Interior-Environment package that was approved recently.

With $500,000 in funding, the Fort Wayne Police Department will be able to purchase a Rapid DNA Analysis machine and supplies.”

This advanced technology will significantly improve the FWPD’s ability to investigate and solve violent crimes. Fort Wayne has made important strides in public safety, including achieving a 97 percent homicide clearance rate last year. Investing in the ANDE system will build on that progress, giving officers the tools they need to respond swiftly and effectively to the most serious crimes, particularly cases of sexual assault and homicide.

The ANDE Rapid DNA Analysis machine will be a resource to Fort Wayne and surrounding communities. Fort Wayne will work with communities in northeast Indiana, so they are able to benefit from this equipment as well.

With $2 million in funding, City Utilities will be able to replace lead pipes, water mains, and storm sewers in the Memorial Park area.

The project will replace 60 lead water service lines, 6,000 linear feet of water mains, and 5,500 linear feet of storm sewers. The project will serve 170 customers. Once completed, this project will replace water mains and water service lines that are 100-years old, reduce the risk of basement backups and street flooding and will reduce combined sewer overflows into our rivers.

“I want to thank Representative Marlin Stutzman for his leadership and ongoing efforts to invest in communities like Fort Wayne,” said Mayor Tucker. “We value and appreciate the partnership between local and federal governments and look forward to continued collaboration to move Fort Wayne in a positive direction.”

Please note: An email was recieved from John Perlich, Public Information Officer for the City of Fort Wayne stating the name of the DNA machine manufacturer shouldn’t have been included as a final vendor hasn’t been selected.

Related Images:

 <a href="https://aroundfortwayne.com/news/wp-content/gallery/cityoffw/71710.jpg"
title="Mayor Tom Henry shakes hands with Allen County Councilman Paul Moss after the press conference announcing his decision to seek a referendum vote on the gaming issue.
