Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker welcomed the Fort Wayne Fire Department\u2019s newest recruit classes today to their first day of training at the Public Safety Academy.<\/p>\n

Mayor Tucker and FWFD Welcome 98th and 99th Recruit Classes to First Day of Training at Public Safety Academy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (December 1, 2025) \u2013 Mayor Sharon Tucker welcomed the Fort Wayne Fire Department\u2019s newest recruit classes today to their first day of training at the Public Safety Academy. There are 14 FWFD recruits in the 98th class and 16 FWFD recruits in the 99th class. Additionally, two firefighters are attending from the Huntington Fire Department.<\/p>\n

Twenty-one percent of the FWFD\u2019s 98th recruit class are in an ethnic minority group, including three males–one who identifies as Black, one male who identifies as Hispanic or Latino, and one male that identifies as Asian. One female who identifies as white is also included in the class.<\/p>\n

Forty-three percent of the FWFD\u2019s 99th recruit class are in an ethnic minority group, including six males who identify as Black, one male who identifies as Hispanic or Latino, two males that identify as Asian, and two males that identify as two or more races. One female is also included in the class and identifies as black.<\/p>\n

Members of the 98th recruit class are currently nationally registered emergency medical technicians and will participate in 13 weeks of fire-based training before their graduation day on February 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

The 99th recruit class will participate in 21 weeks of training before their graduation day on April 23, 2026.<\/p>\n

Participants will obtain the following seven certifications after completing the rigorous, hands-on training:<\/p>\n

Fire Fighter I
\nFire Fighter II
\nEmergency Medical Technician (Basic)
\nHazardous Materials
\nTechnical Rescue
\nFEMA National Incident Management System
\nFire Apparatus Driver Operator<\/p>\n
