Mayor Henry and FWFD place new Engine 17 into service<\/strong>
\nA new Engine 8 is also part of new apparatus for FWFD<\/em><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 30, 2019) \u2013 Mayor Tom Henry and Fire Chief Eric Lahey today led a ceremony celebrating the placement of the new Engine 17 into service.<\/p>\n

A traditional \u201cwet down\u201d and \u201cpush in\u201d service was conducted at Fire Station 17, 1910 Getz Rd., for one of the newest pieces of equipment for the Fort Wayne Fire Department. A similar ceremony took place today for the new Engine 8 at Fire Station 8, 6035 Rothman Rd.<\/p>\n

The new engines were manufactured by Pierce Manufacturing and are part of their Saber line of engines. The equipment is capable of pumping water at 1,250 gallons per minute and both have 450 horsepower Cummins diesel motors.<\/p>\n

Engine 17 responded to 1,040 calls for service in 2018 and had an average response time of three minutes and 12 seconds. Engine 8 responded to 649 calls for service last year with an average response time of three minutes and 17 seconds.<\/p>\n

The new engines are replacing a 2005 American LaFrance from Fire Station 17 and a 2007 American LaFrance from Fire Station 8.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
