ACPL and The Genealogy Center Celebrate Family History Month with Free Programs<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 29, 2025) \u2013 The Allen County Public Library\u2019s Genealogy Center is again celebrating Family History Month this October with a full month of free programs designed to inspire, educate, and connect individuals with their families\u2019 stories. Known as one of the premier family history research centers in the world, the Genealogy Center welcomes both beginners and seasoned researchers to take part in events, presentations, and workshops.<\/p>\n

\u201cFamily History Month is a wonderful time to engage in finding more of our families\u2019 stories, that are the fabric of our lives, the stories that make us who we are,\u201d said Curt Witcher, Director of Special Collections and Genealogy Center Manager. \u201cWe are excited to provide resources and programs that bring history to life, whether through personal discovery, networking, or learning from experts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Highlights of this year\u2019s Family History Month include:<\/p>\n

Chasing Ghosts: The Story of the Ghost Army<\/strong>
\nJoin us in the Main Library Theater for a remarkable presentation on the top-secret WWII U.S. Army unit that used creativity, illusion, and ingenuity to save lives and help win the war. October 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Main Library Theater<\/p>\n

Transform Your Activity Calendar & Really Stand Out: Innovative Tools to Boost Joy, Engagement, and Reminiscence in Eldercare<\/strong>
\nThis in-person program shares practical, creative strategies for caregivers and activity planners in senior communities looking to spark joy and connection.<\/p>\n

October 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Main Library Theater<\/p>\n

Making the Records Talk<\/strong>
\nNationally-recognized African American research experts Timothy Pinnick and Janis Forte, in partnership with the African American Genealogical Society of Fort Wayne, will teach strategies for interpreting historical records to bring family stories into focus through discovering new records and embracing good research strategies.<\/p>\n

October 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Genealogy Center<\/p>\n

All Family History Month activities are free and open to the public. Unless otherwise noted, events will be held at the Main Library (900 Library Plaza, Fort Wayne).<\/p>\n

The Genealogy Center is home to the largest public library genealogy collection in the country. Its expert staff, specialized collections, and on-site-only resources make Fort Wayne a destination for family historians from around the globe.<\/p>\n

\nThe Allen County Public Library (ACPL) has fostered lifelong learning and discovery in northeast Indiana for more than 135 years. The ACPL consists of fourteen branches throughout Allen County, serving more than one million visitors per year. The ACPL\u2019s collection includes more than 3.9 million items, with a circulation total of 4.6 million items borrowed annually. It also houses The Genealogy Center, the nation\u2019s largest public genealogy research center, and The Rolland Center for Lincoln Research, consisting of more than 30,000 artifacts related to President Abraham Lincoln.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
