Mather lecture at the History Center.<\/p>\n<p>Giere&#8217;s topic will be &#8220;The History of the Fort Wayne Fire Department&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Persons attending also have the opportunity to visit History Center exhibits at no additional charge.<\/p>\n<p>Giere has been the vice president of the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum since 1996 and treasurer of the Law Enforcement\/Firefighters Memorial of Allen County since 2005. He became a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in his hometown of Coldwater, OH in 1980 and was hired by the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>In 1993, while serving on the board of directors at the History Center, the Rev. George R. Mather proposed a series of free Sunday afternoon lectures on topics that influenced Fort Wayne and Allen County history. This lecture series has been renamed in his memory.
