TinCaps Tie Franchise Record for Hits in Lopsided Win at Lansing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lansing, Michigan (June 19, 2022) – In the 30th year of Fort Wayne’s franchise, the TinCaps matched a club record for hits in a game as they annihilated the Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A’s affiliate), 14-0, on Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field. The ‘Caps recorded 22 hits, matching a record that was previously set in 1998.<\/p>\n

With the victory, the TinCaps took four of six to win the series.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (26-37) scored eight runs on eight hits and two walks in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Right fielder Agust\u00edn Ruiz delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer that made it 5-0. The TinCaps chased Lugnuts starter Shohei Tomioka out of the game in the first.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, not to go unnoticed, ‘Caps starter Robert Gasser threw seven no-hit innings. The 23-year-old left hander walked the first batter he faced and was perfect after that, retiring 21 consecutive batters. The No. 8 Padres prospect struck out eight. Remarkably, the TinCaps have no-hit their opponent through seven innings each of the past two Sunday afternoons, after also accomplishing that against Lake County last week.<\/p>\n

Offensively, Fort Wayne poured it on with two runs in the third, one in the fifth, one in the seventh, and two more in the ninth. The Summit City squad was 11-for-23 (.478) with runners in scoring position. All nine batters in the order had at least one hit. Everyone reached base at least twice.<\/p>\n

Lansing (24-39) finally recorded its first hit with one out in the eighth as Gabriel Maciel doubled against reliever Gabe Morales. The lefty allowed a walk and a single in the ninth, but preserved the shutout as he finished with four strikeouts.<\/p>\n
