Open Streets Fort Wayne Returns for the 8th Year on August 17, 2025<\/strong>
\nVolunteers needed for 2 \u00bd hour time slots<\/em><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 23, 2025) \u2013 Mayor Sharon Tucker and the City\u2019s Public Works Department announced today that Open Streets Fort Wayne will return on Sunday, August 17, 12:00 \u2013 4:00 p.m., for the eighth year. This free community event is \u201cpeople-powered\u201d and provides participants with a safe space to bike, walk and play along more than 20 blocks on Calhoun Street. There will be activities for people of all ages and cultures to enjoy together with games, music, food and much more planned. The Knight Foundation is the presenting sponsor of Open Streets Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n

This year for the first time, Dreyer\u2019s Grand Ice Cream will be giving away free Drumstick ice cream samples to attendees, and Partners in Autism will provide a Sensory Tent at the event. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Open Streets event exemplifies how Fort Wayne is a fun, family-friendly, and safe community,\u201d said Mayor Tucker. \u201cWe encourage individuals and families to participate and enjoy the many quality of life amenities that our community offers as a growing and thriving city to live, work, and play.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are elated that Open Streets is returning to the historic Calhoun Street Corridor for the eighth year,\u201d said Greenways Program Manager Rick Zolman. \u201cWith more than 20 blocks of free activities, Open Streets is one of Fort Wayne\u2019s most unforgettable experiences. This year we are delighted to be adding a number of new activity providers and returning fan favorites. We would love to have you join us by wheel, by heel, by roll, or by stroll on Sunday, August 17.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volunteers are needed for 2 \u00bd hour time slots, before, during and after the event. For available time slots, tasks involved and to sign up to volunteer: 2025 Open Streets Volunteer Sign Up<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Open Streets is presented by the Public Works Division of the City of Fort Wayne as well as the Knight Foundation. Sponsors include Fort Wayne Community Schools, Linke Urology + Robotics, Lincoln Financial Group, Indiana Donor Network, Fort Wayne SEED and Dreyer\u2019s Grand Ice Cream.<\/p>\n
