7,700-Plus Pack Parkview Field, But Dayton Wins<\/strong>

Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 19, 2023) \u2013 The TinCaps dropped their Saturday night contest against the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate), 7-1, in front of a sellout crowd of 7,721 fans on a comfortable evening at Parkview Field. It snapped Fort Wayne’s three-game winning streak.<\/p>\n

The huge attendance marked the 14th sellout and the third-largest crowd at Parkview Field this season. The \u2018Caps are averaging more than 5,200 fans per game this season, which ranks third out of 60 Single-A and High-A clubs. It\u2019s also better than 22 Double-A teams and eight in Triple-A.<\/p>\n

Shortstop Jarryd Dale doubled twice and finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, while third baseman Graham Pauley (No. 11 Padres prospect) singled and doubled.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (26-21, 58-55) is still in second place despite the loss, trailing West Michigan (Detroit Tigers affiliate) by 1 1\/2 games with 19 games remaining in the regular season.<\/p>\n

Dayton (25-22, 58-55) got a solid start from righty Chase Petty (No. 7 Reds prospect), who tossed four shutout frames.<\/p>\n

The Dragons plated four in the top of the third on the strength of two long balls. Designated hitter Mat Nelson smashed one of his two solo homers of the game, and later, catcher Cade Hunter went deep for a two-run blast. Then first baseman Ruben Ibarra hit an RBI double to drive in an unearned run, making it 4-0.<\/p>\n

In the seventh, Dayton added two more on a Hunter double and an Ibarra single. The Dragons tacked on another in the eighth with Nelson\u2019s second bomb of the game.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth when first baseman Carlos Luis smacked an RBI single.<\/p>\n

Despite the result, TinCaps starter Miguel Cienfuegos had a quality start with six innings of work and only three earned runs yielded.<\/p>\n

Designated hitter Ethan Salas was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. He’s reached base safely in all five games of the series.<\/p>\n
