TinCaps Host 5 Millionth Fan, But Fall Late<\/strong>

Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 17, 2023) \u2013 Fort Wayne center fielder Jakob Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect) blasted a go-ahead seventh inning homer, but the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) scored the game\u2019s final four runs, out-slugging the home side, 11-8, in front of a sellout crowd of 7,440 Friday night at Parkview Field. Fans enjoyed the game on Hispanic Heritage Night as the TinCaps wore special jerseys and hats. Fort Wayne took on its alternate identity as the Manzanas Luchadoras (“Fighting Apples” in Spanish). Despite the loss, the \u2018Caps have still won eight of their last 11 games.<\/p>\n

Friday night also marked a milestone at Parkview Field as the ballpark welcomed its 5,000,000th fan for a TinCaps game, midway through its 14th season. <\/p>\n

After trailing 8-7, Dayton tied the game in the eighth with shortstop Edwin Arroyo\u2019s RBI single. Then with two away in the ninth, right fielder Austin Hendrick ripped a two-run single, giving the Dragons all they would need to outlast Fort Wayne for the win.<\/p>\n

Marsee finished the game 2-for-5. First baseman Nathan Martorella (No. 23 Padres prospect) also hit his league-leading 11th home run in the first inning, capping a 1-for-3 night with a pair of walks.<\/p>\n

Martorella\u2019s two-run bomb opened the scoring before Dayton jumped in front in the third, scoring four times on four hits, highlighted by two homers.<\/p>\n

But Fort Wayne clawed back in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game at 4-4 on left fielder Justin Farmer\u2019s two-out, two-run single.<\/p>\n

That lead quickly dissipated when the Dragons scored thrice in the fifth. The TinCaps came right back though, scoring a pair in the sixth on an RBI single by second baseman Lucas Dunn and a sacrifice fly by third baseman Carlos Luis, making it 7-6.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne grabbed the lead in the last of the seventh when Marsee launched his go-ahead two-run shot to right field, giving the \u2018Caps an 8-7 advantage at the time before Dayton started their rally.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps have two more Hispanic Heritage games scheduled for Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, Aug. 20. <\/p>\n
