Resignation Statement<\/p>\n
It is with great regret I announce that I am resigning from the US House of Representatives, as well as\u00c2\u00a0resigning\u00c2\u00a0as the Republican nominee for Congress in this fall’s election.<\/p>\n
I believe it is the best decision for my family, the people of Northeast Indiana, and our Country.
\nI will submit my resignation to Speaker Pelosi effective this Friday.<\/p>\n
I can never fully thank all those who have worked so hard, given so much and supported me through eight contested primaries and eight general elections. It has been a privilege <\/em><\/strong>to be a part of the battle for freedom and the values we share. It has been all consuming<\/em> for me to do this job well, especially in a district with costly, competitive elections every two years. \u00c2\u00a0I do not have any sort of “normal”<\/em> life – for family, for friends, for church, for community.<\/p>\n To serve has been a blessing <\/strong>and a responsibility given from God.<\/em> I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff.<\/p>\n In the poisonous environment of Washington DC, any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. Diane and my family were more than willing to stand here with me. Not only am I \u00c2\u00a0thankful for a loving family but for a loving God. But I am so ashamed <\/em>to have hurt those I love. The ideas we advocate are still just and right. By stepping aside, my mistake cannot be used as a political football in a partisan attempt to undermine the cause for which I have labored all my adult life.<\/p>\n I love this area. For sixteen years, my family and I have given our all<\/em> for this area. As I leave public office, my plans are focused on repairing my marriage, earning back the trust of my family and my community, and renewing my walk with my Lord.<\/p>\n I humbly ask you, for the sake of my family<\/strong><\/em> that you respect our privacy in this difficult time.<\/p>\n I have no further comments.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n I am hurrying to get this up, will proofread in a moment, although I don’t think there are any mistakes. \nOnly when you have been the recipient <\/strong>can you really feel the humbling power<\/em> of such generosity<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n
\nIt has been a great honor<\/strong><\/em> to fight for the needs, the jobs, and the future of this region where my family has lived for over 160 years.<\/p>\n
\nI wish I could have been a better example.<\/p>\n
\nI am\u00c2\u00a0resigning <\/strong><\/em>rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process.<\/p>\n
\nWe are a committed family.
\nBut the error is mine <\/em>and I<\/strong><\/em> should bear the responsibility.<\/p>\n
\nMy comfort is that God is a gracious and forgiving God to those who sincerely seek his forgiveness as I do.<\/p>\n
\nI am so sorry <\/em>to have let so many friends down, people who have fought so hard for me.<\/p>\n
\nAmerica will survive and thrive when anchored in those values.
\nHuman beings, like me<\/em>, will fail<\/strong><\/em>, but our cause <\/strong>is greater than individuals<\/em>.
\nIt is based upon eternal truths.<\/p>\n
\nThis is my home.
\nIt has been such <\/em><\/strong>an honor to serve you.<\/p>\n
