City of Fort Wayne wins top planning awards from state association<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 12, 2025) \u2013 The City of Fort Wayne recently captured two top awards from the Indiana Chapter of the American Planning Association.<\/p>\n

The City was awarded the Outstanding Best Practice for the Historic Northeast 2035 Neighborhood Plan and the 2025 Hoosier Planning Award for Outstanding Outreach and Communication for Engage Fort Wayne. The City\u2019s Neighborhoods Department is responsible for both the Historic Northeast 2035 Neighborhood Plan and the Engage Fort Wayne site.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of our Neighborhoods Department and the dedication to excellence the staff demonstrate every day,\u201d said Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker. \u201cThese awards affirm what we already know \u2013 our Neighborhoods team is committed to innovative approaches that enhance the quality of life for all Fort Wayne residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Outstanding Best Practice award honors a specific planning tool, practice, program, project or process and emphasizes results and demonstrates how state-of-the-art planning methods and practices create communities of lasting value. The City\u2019s Historic Northeast 2035 Neighborhood Plan was adopted in May 2024 and is a shared vision and direction for the group of neighborhoods located in the city’s northeast urban core. The plan provides strategies for investing in growth, building community, and improving the quality of life for area residents. The Outstanding Outreach and Communication award honors an individual, project, or program that uses information and education about the value of planning to create greater awareness among citizens or specific segments of the public. The Engage Fort Wayne online platform was launched in February 2024 and provides residents with a one-stop location to access information about ongoing initiatives and actively contribute their perspectives to the City’s plans and implementation. The Engage Fort Wayne website<\/a> changes how people interact with their local government by using a digital platform instead of traditional methods. It aims to make participation easier and more inclusive by combining online and in-person activities.<\/p>\n

The Indiana Chapter of the American Planning Association, https:\/\/indiana.planning.org\/<\/a>, advocates for good planning to make for great communities. The organization fosters better planning in Indiana by building public and political support for sound planning and providing our members with the tools and support they need to advance the profession.<\/p>\n

The City of Fort Wayne\u2019s Community Development Division works to enhance economic opportunity, build strong neighborhoods and ensure a dynamic framework for growth and development. The Division\u2019s departments include Neighborhood Code Compliance, Neighborhoods, Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services, Redevelopment\/Economic Development, and Planning and Policy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
