A second-edition publication of the Churches\u2019 Bill of Rights, has been produced by Attorney General Todd Rokita in collaboration with Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith.<\/p>\n

Churches\u2019 Bill of Rights helps Hoosiers of faith understand liberties and limits under the law<\/strong>
\nAttorney General Todd Rokita and Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith collaborate to roll out newest edition<\/em><\/p>\n

Indianapolis, Indiana (May 14, 2025) – A second-edition publication produced by Attorney General Todd Rokita in collaboration with Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith \u2014 titled the Churches\u2019 Bill of Rights \u2014 provides guidance to Hoosiers about the rights and protections afforded to churches and other houses of worship under state and federal laws.<\/p>\n

\u201cReligious liberty is guaranteed to all Americans by the U.S. and Indiana constitutions, and we want to ensure Hoosiers understand their rights,\u201d Attorney General Rokita said. \u201cWe encourage everyone to be emboldened to practice their faith and participate in civil society to the fullest extent possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The document is written in a question-and-answer format. It covers such topics as the extent to which churches may participate in elections and politics, churches\u2019 tax-exempt status, freedom of worship, protections for church governance and autonomy, and other topics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a movement in the right direction \u2013 one that is long overdue,\u201d Lieutenant Governor Beckwith said. \u201cDeep-rooted faith has long defined our great state, and with the Churches\u2019 Bill of Rights, we are affirming that every Hoosier, every church, temple, synagogue, and faith-based community will stand as an equal and respected partner. I am proud to fight for a state where respect for religious liberty guides the decisions we make, ensuring all Hoosiers can live, work, and thrive together in faith and freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

This document is an update of the September 2024 guidance<\/a> Attorney General Rokita\u2019s office sent to religious leaders and churches across the state on how to participate in election-related activities and engage on important matters of public policy in ways consistent with their tax-exempt status.<\/p>\n
