TinCaps Split Doubleheader with Whitecaps<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 3, 2024) \u2013 On ‘Caps Against Cancer Night, the TinCaps and West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers affiliate) split a doubleheader at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne won the opener, 5-2, before falling, 3-2, in the finale.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps, who wear special jerseys that are available for fans to bid on through Sunday night at tincaps.com\/auction with proceeds being donated to Parkview Health’s Transformative Cancer Care Fund, took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the first game. Right fielder Joshua Mears hit an RBI single and second baseman Nerwilian Cede\u00f1o added a run-scoring triple, and Colton Bender drove in a run as well.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (12-23, 40-61) tacked on insurance in the sixth as Mears and Cede\u00f1o hit back-to-back home solo home runs to extend the lead to 5-0.<\/p>\n

Sam Whiting started for the TinCaps and went the first 2 2\/3 innings, while Joan Gonzalez pitched the next 2 1\/3. Though West Michigan (19-15, 50-50) scored twice in the ninth, Bradgley Rodriguez (No. 21 Padres prospect) entered to record the game’s final out and earn his first High-A save of the season.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps’ power carried over into the second game. Right fielder Kai Murphy pulled a solo homer to right field in the first.<\/p>\n

However, the Whitecaps scored an unearned run in the second to equalize. Then they took a 3-1 lead in the third as shortstop Kevin McGonigle (No. 4 Tigers prospect) crushed a two-run homer.<\/p>\n

Romeo Sanabria (No. 27 Padres prospect) hit an opposite-field solo homer to left in the fourth to trim Fort Wayne’s deficit to a run, but that’s as close as the home side would get.<\/p>\n

In the nightcap, Isaiah Lowe (No. 13 Padres prospect) made his High-A debut after being promoted from Single-A Lake Elsinore earlier in the week. He struck out four over four innings of work. Keegan Collett (one inning) and Jos\u00e9 Geraldo (two innings) then provided scoreless relief.<\/p>\n

This marked the TinCaps’ 22nd one-run loss of the season \u2013 tied for the most out of Minor League Baseball’s 120 teams.<\/p>\n
