The TinCaps played their 16th extra-inning game of the season on Wednesday night as they fell, 6-5, in 11 innings against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Parkview Field.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 31, 2024) \u2013 The TinCaps played their 16th extra-inning game of the season on Wednesday night \u2013 the most among all Major League and Minor League Baseball teams \u2013 as they fell, 6-5, in 11 innings against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers affiliate) at Parkview Field.<\/p>\n

West Michigan (17-14, 48-49) put the first run on the board with a bang in the third inning. Seth Stephenson hit a fly ball to left field for an inside-the-park home run, the first at Parkview Field this season. After that, Kevin McGonigle (No. 4 Tigers prospect) plated Max Anderson (No. 16 Tigers prospect), who tripled, with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (11-21, 39-59) starter Jagger Haynes (No. 12 Padres prospect) put together a quality six-inning start, striking out five and yielding just two hits.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps scored their first run in the seventh as Devin Ortiz singled to bring in Nick Vogt and cut the deficit to 2-1.<\/p>\n

The ‘Caps tied things up at 2-2 in the eighth inning thanks to a run-scoring single by Nerwilian Cede\u00f1o.<\/p>\n

After the Whitecaps put up two in the top of the 10th, the TinCaps refused to go out without a fight, and Kai Murphy pulled Fort Wayne back within one with an RBI single. Later, a wild pitch sent Murphy home to put the game at 4-4.<\/p>\n

In the 11th, West Michigan scored a pair of unearned runs with two outs. Fort Wayne also scored a run as a result of an error, but it wasn\u2019t enough as the Whitecaps clung on to a 6-5 final score.<\/p>\n

The ‘Caps are 6-10 in extra-innings and have lost 20 one-run games \u2013 third most in MiLB.<\/p>\n
