Sellout Crowd at Parkview Field for Thursday’s Doubleheader<\/strong>

Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 27, 2024) – Parkview Field was sold out for the eighth time this season on Thursday night, but with 7,119 fans in attendance, the TinCaps dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate). The TinCaps lost 10-7 in 10 innings to start the evening, before falling 3-1 in the nightcap.<\/p>\n

The first game \u2013 both were scheduled for seven innings \u2014 was a tale of two halves, as the seventh inning ended with the score stuck at 2-2.<\/p>\n

The scoring started in the home first inning when catcher Anthony Vilar singled home a run and a Dayton error scored the first two for Fort Wayn. Meanwhile, lefty Jagger Haynes (No. 18 Padres prospect) tossed six quality innings for Fort Wayne (2-4, 30-42). Dayton (3-3, 37-35) mustered just three hits against Haynes, who struck out seven.<\/p>\n

But the Dragons got a run back in the second and scored an unearned run in the sixth to tie it up.<\/p>\n

After each side scored a run in the eighth, the game flipped on its head in the ninth. Dayton scored three in the top half, and the TinCaps responded. With two outs in the home half, trailing by three, first baseman Romeo Sanabria knocked a two-run single and then Vilar equalized with a two-out single himself. However, Dayton scored four more runs in the 10th to go up 10-6. Fort Wayne fought back as shortstop Nik McClaughry drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 10-7, but the bases were then left loaded.<\/p>\n

The second game began similarly, as the pitchers excelled. Sam Whiting started and struck out seven batters in three scoreless innings. Fernando Sanchez followed with seven Ks as well in three frames.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps scored their lone run in the third to grab a 1-0 lead, as outfielder Joshua Mears singled and eventually scored on a Homer Bush Jr. (No. 8 Padres prospect) groundout. Dayton struggled early at the plate, but scored three runs in the sixth, including one unearned to seize advantage.<\/p>\n

Ethan Salas (No. 1 Padres prospect) had the first game off, but walked in the finale to extend his on-base streak to a team-leading nine games.<\/p>\n
