Miami Indian Heritage Days and George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 16, 2025) – The History Center presents Miami Indian Heritage Days, Saturday, May 3 at the Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne. Learn about the lasting heritage of the Miami and other regional Native American groups. Local artists, performers and presenters will be featured the first Saturday of the month, May to November, from 1-4 pm. Jared Nally will offer a demonstration on Finger Weaving on May 3.<\/p>\n

The Chief Richardville House, or akima pin\u0161iwa awiiki, is recognized as the oldest Native American structure in the Midwest. Admission to Miami Indian Heritage Days includes a guided tour of this National Historic Landmark. Admission for each Saturday event is $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. History Center members and children age 2 and under are free.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, May 4, the History Center will present the next lecture of the 2024-2025 George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series. **In a change from our published schedule** Allison DePrey Singleton will present, \u201cTracing the Paths: Indiana Migration and Discoveries.\u201d This lecture will explore the rich history of migration to and within Indiana, uncovering the diverse stories and journeys that have shaped the state. This program delves into the movements of people across time, highlighting key migration patterns, cultural influences, and the impact on Indiana’s communities. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or interested in the dynamics of population shifts, this program offers insights into the forces that have shaped Indiana’s past and continue to influence its present. The lecture begins at 2 PM and admission is free to the public. All George R. Mather lectures are made possible through the generous support of the Floyd and Betty Lou Lancia Family Foundation and Indiana Humanities.<\/p>\n
