ISP Partners with DEA for Drug Take Back Day<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 7, 2025) – Dispose of unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs on Saturday April 26, 2025. The Indiana State Police is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their 27th \u201cPrescription Drug Take Back\u201d initiative. The \u201cTake Back\u201d initiative seeks to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft through proper disposal of unwanted prescription drugs.<\/p>\n

Collection sites will be set up nationwide for expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs which will be properly disposed of without threat to the environment. This program is for pill and liquid medications. Needles or sharps of any kind WILL NOT be accepted for disposal. This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.<\/p>\n

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Expired and unwanted medicines that are left in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses from these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.<\/p>\n

In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines\u2014flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the sink or trash\u2014pose both potential safety and health hazards.<\/p>\n

Once again, the Indiana State Police is pleased to partner with the DEA, and as in the past, unwanted medications may be dropped off at any Indiana State Police Post, except for the Toll Road Post.<\/p>\n

The Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post will host their collection site from 10:00am – 2:00pm on April 26, 2025. The Fort Wayne Post is located at 5811 Ellison Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46804 (Beside Rural King on Jefferson Rd.). All items should be brought to the new building and placed in the boxes inside the front doors.<\/p>\n

NEEDLES or SHARPS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR DISPOSAL<\/strong>. Please help keep our officers safe by ensuring no needles or sharps are included in your contents at drop-off.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
