Souder Statement on Health Care<\/strong><\/p>\n

(March 18, 2010) – U.S. Rep. Mark Souder released the following statement today, after receiving calls and emails from constituents regarding the latest health care reform proposals:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Our offices have received constant inquiries on the health care bill and its chances of passing the House. Earlier this afternoon, the Congressional Budget Office released its preliminary analysis of the latest Democratic proposal, which they estimate will cost $940 billion. It’s hard to believe the Democrats are bragging about spending nearly a trillion dollars with money from Medicare cuts for seniors.<\/p>\n

“Despite constant setbacks, it now appears the rules committee will meet Saturday to pass the so-called \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSlaughter Rule’\u00e2\u20ac\u201da process that deems the Senate health care bill as passed without an actual vote. This raises serious constitutional questions since Article 1, Section 7 establishes that in order for a bill to become a law, it must be passed by both Houses. The tentative vote on the reconciliation package is now scheduled for Sunday\u00e2\u20ac\u201dan ironic day to enact legislation that will expand access to abortion.<\/p>\n

“I hope that the constant delays are a forecast of a high profile failure by the Democrats to jam this down the American people’s throats. But, with the massive pressure and deal-making by Speaker Pelosi and President Obama, they still have a slight advantage. For these reasons, those opposed to the bill need to keep the pressure on.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
