Today, Mayor Sharon Tucker welcomed the Fort Wayne Fire Department\u2019s newest recruit class to their first day of training at the Public Safety Academy.<\/p>\n

Mayor Tucker and FWFD Welcome 97th Recruit Class to First Day of Training at Public Safety Academy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (February 17, 2025) \u2013 Mayor Sharon Tucker welcomed the Fort Wayne Fire Department\u2019s newest recruit class today to their first day of training at the Public Safety Academy. There are 23 FWFD recruits in the class. Additionally, three firefighters are attending from the Huntington Fire Department.<\/p>\n

Twenty-six percent of the FWFD\u2019s 97th recruit class are in an ethnic minority group, including five males who identify as Black and one male who identifies as Hispanic or Latino. One female is also included in the class.<\/p>\n

The recruits will participate in 23 weeks of training before their graduation day on July 25, 2025.<\/p>\n

Participants will obtain the following seven certifications after completing the rigorous, hands-on training:<\/p>\n
