McMichael Administration Recaps 2024, Previews 2025 at City of New Haven\u2019s Annual State of the City Address<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Haven, Indiana (January 24, 2025) \u2014 Officials with the City of New Haven and guests gathered at the local community center on Friday to review the previous year and highlight plans for 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It was] a year of exciting changes and progress,\u201d said New Haven Mayor Steve McMichael. \u201cAnd let me tell you, progress isn\u2019t just about science; it\u2019s an art as well. And I think New Haven is becoming a real master of the Art of Progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Highlights from the year included new business ventures like the opening of the 1,000th Culver\u2019s restaurant and Finland-based Hilltip opening its North American headquarters. The city also grew in size after annexing approximately 200 acres of land. As for the economy, New Haven saw over $40 million in industrial construction and nearly $75 million in new residential buildings.<\/p>\n

The completion of the public safety expansion and the wet weather treatment facility both represent the city\u2019s commitment to identifying and answering the community’s needs. The public safety expansion added much-needed space at city hall, allowing the New Haven Police Department and East Central Fire and EMS to better respond to emergencies. The wet weather treatment facility allows the city to discharge clean water into the Maumee River, which has saved ratepayers hundreds of dollars annually.<\/p>\n

The city also saw increased efforts to connect and communicate with residents in 2024. Our engineering and community development departments have collaborated to install additional signage across the community using our TRAINFO systems, which alert motorists about the status of railroad crossings. That system has also been connected to send alerts via X, allowing citizens to receive real-time updates. Additionally, the city launched Activate New Haven, a platform created by local startup Civify, to serve as a new communication hub. Through Activate New Haven, citizens can get updates on various construction projects, learn about upcoming events, and connect to community resources.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, city officials plan to continue the city\u2019s upward trajectory by adding more trails and public spaces, strengthening access to mental health resources, and creating a welcoming environment in which people want to continue to live, work, play, and run a business.<\/p>\n
