Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and Fire Chief Eric Lahey announced today that the Fort Wayne Fire Department was awarded $15,000 in grant funding by Norfolk Southern Corporation.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne Fire Department Receives $15,000 Grant from Norfolk Southern<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (January 17, 2025) \u2013 Mayor Sharon Tucker and Fire Chief Eric Lahey announced today that the Fort Wayne Fire Department was awarded $15,000 in grant funding by Norfolk Southern Corporation.<\/p>\n

The funds will be used to purchase nine Automated External Defibrillators (AED\u2019s) that will include hard carrying cases and infant\/child keys. The units will be distributed to 40-hour personnel which includes code inspectors, the safety education division, fire\/arson investigators, EMS\/training academy staff, and command staff. The department plans to purchase additional AED\u2019s in the future to achieve its goal of equipping all 40-hour personnel with the life-saving devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m appreciative of the efforts of the Fort Wayne Fire Department to apply for grants that have the wellbeing of our community at the forefront,\u201d said Mayor Tucker. \u201cEquipping our personnel with life-saving devices enhances our ability to meet the needs of the public during an emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n

The grant is part of two community programs launched by Norfolk Southern in 2023: the Safety First Grant Program, which seeks to advance safety organizations and initiatives, and the Thriving Communities Grant Program, which aims to promote economic opportunity, support vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities. Award recipients are selected annually from across the railroad\u2019s 22-state network.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
