The inaugural round of grant awards was announced last year, and the Department of Health is again pleased to invest in the health of Allen County residents with the help of local organizations. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/docs\/Allen_County\/Health_Department\/2025\" target=\"_blank\">Download the full list of 2025 grants with explanations<\/a> or view at the end of this post.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we announce $2,911,500 in grant funding to organizations for work in eight Core Public Health Service areas: Maternal &#038; Child Health; Student Health; Tobacco Cessation &#038; Education; Trauma &#038; Injury Prevention &#038; Education; Access &#038; Linkage\/Referrals to Clinical Care; Chronic Disease Prevention &#038; Reduction; Fatality Review &#038; Prevention; and Child &#038; Adult Immunizations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commitment and dedication of so many of our partners to improving public health continues to excite and encourage us,\u201d Department of Health Administrator Mindy Waldron said. \u201cOnce again, they stepped up to offer ideas to serve the residents of Allen County. We\u2019re so thankful for their willingness and ability to help with such important issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Health continues to provide essential services in areas such as immunizations and communicable disease testing and prevention, food inspection \u2013 including inspection of restaurants \u2013 and other consumer protection programs, vector and pollution control and abatement, and keeping and providing vital records such as birth and death certificates. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can do a lot to get and keep Allen County residents healthy, and these partners are essential to helping us expand our reach and do even more,\u201d Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Gutwein said. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to continue working to move the needle toward improving health in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HFAC was launched after intensive study of the state\u2019s public health delivery system, which resulted in the Health First Indiana funding and service delivery initiatives. Indiana lawmakers and Allen County officials approved new and much-need funding for local health departments across the state to make improvements, including providing or working with partners to provide the Core Public Health Services. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to Key Performance Indicators (KPI) required through the state initiative, the Department of Health is developing local KPIs for 2025 in areas that will address infant mortality, communicable disease prevention, childhood lead testing and case management, as well as childhood and adult vaccinations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<strong>List of the 2025 Grant Awards &#038; child health services such as screenings and referrals, as well as the addition of car seat installation and safety check services for clients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Mother\u2019s Hope, Inc<\/strong>. &#8211; $70,000<br \/>\nCore Public Health Service Area: Maternal &#038; Child Health<br \/>\nProject Summary: Providing housing and supportive services to foster a nurturing environment that promotes health, wellness and stability for pregnant women and their babies experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alive Community Outreach<\/strong> &#8211; Alcohol Consortium<\/strong> &#8211; $30,000 (MINI-GRANT)<br \/>\nCore Public Health Service Area: Tobacco Cessation &#038; Education<br \/>\nProject Summary: Implementation of evidence-based vaping prevention programming providing education and resources to Allen County students to increase knowledge of vaping risks, resist peer pressure and decrease overall vaping use in current and future youth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amani Family Services<\/strong> &#8211; $30,000<br \/>\nCore Public Health Service Area: Access &#038; Linkage\/Referrals to Clinical Care<br \/>\nProject Summary: Provision of transportation assistance to connect those with cancer to lifesaving medical care and support services. Removing these transportation barriers will allow vulnerable people to access needed health care services and will increase overall health equity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Child Advocacy Center of Allen County, Inc<\/strong>. &#8211; $20,000<br \/>\nCore Public Health Service Area: Access &#038; Linkage\/Referrals to Clinical Care<br \/>\nProject Summary: The Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children partners with families and provides responsive advocacy for children who have experienced alleged sexual or physical abuse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s Autism Center, Inc<\/strong>. &#8211; $56,000<br \/>\nCore Public Health Service Area: Chronic Disease Prevention &#038; Reduction<br \/>\nProject Summary: Obesity is a significant public health issue for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), affecting nearly 50% of children due to food selectivity and parental stress around mealtime. This leads to a reliance on more accepted, but less nutritious foods.
