County Receives Turn Around Don\u2019t Drown Signs<\/strong>
\nSigns to be placed at high priority areas for flooding<\/em><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (December 10, 2021) \u2014 Allen County has been awarded a set of Turn Around Don\u2019t Drown signs by the National Weather Service to be placed along roads especially prone to flooding. The signs were presented to the Board of Commissioners during its legislative session today.<\/p>\n

The signs will be placed on Parrott Road between Maplecrest and Landin Roads, Irving Road just east of its intersection with Thimlar Road, and Bostic Road just northeast of its intersection with South Anthony Boulevard Extended. These roads are considered high priority areas for flooding.<\/p>\n

Turn Around Don\u2019t Drown is a campaign used by the NWS meant to warn drivers of roads that are covered in water and too dangerous to drive through. “More deaths occur each year due to flooding than any other thunderstorm related hazard and over half of those are caused by vehicles being driven into the water,” said Christopher Morris with the NWS Northern Indiana office.<\/p>\n

Rodney Renkenberger, executive director with the Maumee River Basin Commission, has been working with the NWS Northern Indiana office to secure the Turn Around Don’t Drown signs for Allen and surrounding counties.<\/p>\n

\u201cAllen County is honored to receive these signs from the NWS,” said Commissioner Therese Brown. “The signs are a simple yet visible way to mitigate against the tragic loss that could occur from driving into a flooded roadway,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
