Police Outpost having positive effect in Parkview Hospital neighborhood<\/strong><\/p>\n

(February 18, 2010) The Fort Wayne Police Department and Parkview Health today announced that crime has dropped significantly in a four-block radius around the Northeast Outpost that opened last April at a Parkview-owned building at the corner of State Boulevard and Beacon Street.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The three months prior to the police department occupying the building, there was a nearly 63 percent increase in crime over the same three month period from the prior year. After April 1, 2009, crime dropped 32 percent over the same time period from 2008. Overall, crime in the four-block radius of the outpost dropped nearly 20 percent in 2009 compared to 2008.<\/p>\n

“Clearly the location of the northeast satellite office in concert with the great work being done by our officers has dramatically impacted crime in this area,” stated Chief of Police Rusty York. “Parkview’s contribution continues to be an integral part of this success.”<\/p>\n

“We are pleased to be seeing positive results from our partnership with the Fort Wayne Police Department,” said Mike Packnett, President and CEO, Parkview Health. “This is great news for the Parkview Hospital Randallia neighborhood. By working together with neighbors, businesses and the police department, we have formed a partnership that will have a lasting effect.”<\/p>\n

Last March, officials announced an agreement allowing the police department to utilize the State Boulevard and Beacon Street location. The previous outpost was located at Coliseum Boulevard and Parnell Avenue. The police department pays $10 per year for use of the building.<\/p>\n

The Child Advocacy Center and the Read to Me program are also tenants at the Parkview building.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
