FWPD Gang and Violent Crimes Unit detectives observed Cantrell James enter an orange Dodge Charger and, after a 10-minute high-speed pursuit, apprehended and arrested him on several charges.

Suspect Arrested: Cantrell James, Male, age 33

Preliminary Charges: two counts level 5 felony prohibited person in possession of a handgun. Resisting law enforcement level 5 felony (previous conviction), possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana.

Details/Summary:

Detectives with the Gang & Violent Crimes Unit were in area of 2000 Carterton and observed Cantrell James enter an orange in color Dodge Charger. A GVCU Detective knew James to have an active warrant for his arrest and attempted a stop on his vehicle as it pulled off. This immediately became a high-speed pursuit, that lasted approximately 10 minutes. Tire deflation devices were used on his car, which caused it to slow. James exited his vehicle and fled on foot, and while doing so dropping two pistols that were tucked in his sweatpants waistband. He was tased and apprehended after a short struggle. Located in his car was approximately 4 grams of cocaine. James is a convicted felon, including a previous vehicle pursuit conviction. He was transported to the Allen County Lockup where he was booked.
