News release from the City of Fort Wayne Indiana:

City’s commitment to neighborhoods continues with new Neighborhood Identity Pilot Grant

Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 2, 2024) – Mayor Sharon Tucker, the City of Fort Wayne Department of Neighborhoods and City Councilwoman Michelle Chambers today announced the launch of the new Neighborhood Identity Pilot Grant, a program aimed at helping neighborhoods establish a strong identity and implement branding strategies.

The announcement took place in the Broad River Neighborhood, where President Sarah Aubrey unveiled an example medallion sign, set to be installed on City-owned light poles. Several existing signs on Scott Avenue were also featured.

“The Department of Neighborhoods continues to develop and implement proactive programming and new opportunities to strengthen neighborhoods throughout Fort Wayne,” said Mayor Tucker. “Signage and branding are neat ways for residents and neighborhoods to work together to make a positive difference. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of this program as it serves as another example of why our community is moving in the right direction.”

Councilwoman Chambers was a strong advocate for the recent grant. Her unwavering commitment to the continued success of city neighborhoods is evident in her efforts to secure funding through the 2023 Supplemental LIT.

The pilot grant will allow neighborhoods to develop a distinctive identity through signage and branding. Neighborhoods with existing logos or branding can still apply for signage funding. Neighborhoods without signage or a logo can apply for signage and include a brand development component.

All neighborhoods within city limits are eligible to apply. However, preference for fund distribution will be awarded to those who:

  • Are registered
  • Are duly organized
  • Hold regular meetings
  • Have active bylaws
  • Have elected officers

Applications will be evaluated based on grant criteria and available funding. Funds will be allocated directly to selected vendors for these initiatives.
