On August 7, 2024, the FWPD received multiple reports of a vehicle crashing into the Kroger Marketplace located at 601 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Details/Summary:
On August 7, 2024, FWPD received multiple calls of a vehicle that had just crashed into the Kroger Marketplace located at 601 E Dupont Rd. Upon arrival, Officers found an elderly male driver unconscious and an elderly female passenger with injuries. Both patients were transported by Medics to a local hospital where the male driver was in stable condition, however the female passenger succumbed to her injuries.
From witness statements, it appears the vehicle accelerated rapidly from the pharmacy drive-thru, hit another vehicle at a stop sign, drove through the handicapped parking area, hit a landscaping curb, drove up on the sidewalk, and came to a rest after hitting the west entrance of the building.
This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD FACT Team as well as the Allen County Coroners Officer.
