News release from City of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation:

Registration Opens for Free Tree Seedlings
Bare root trees, ready to plant for Arbor Day

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 22, 2024) – In celebration of Arbor Day 2024, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation in partnership with Trees Indiana will offer over 200 seedlings to the public (one per household) via a simple phone registration. White Oak, Butternut and Black Walnut tree seedlings will be offered to those who register on a first come first served basis. Those who want a free tree seedling should call 260-427-6000 during normal business hours now through April 25 to reserve a seedling. The bare root seedlings must be picked up on Friday, April 26, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at Bob Arnold Northside Park just off of Parnell Avenue.

Trees are an asset to communities when planted properly and maintained. They help improve visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.
