Fort Wayne International Airport All Clear After Security Threat

Fort Wayne, Indiana (August 6, 2021) – Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is all clear following an afternoon security threat that closed down the airport terminal building.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) received a low-level threat in the early afternoon of a potential security threat to passenger and airport staff safety. The threat was then elevated once additional intelligence was received by TSA personnel, and action was taken between TSA officials and Airport Public Safety.

The FWA Terminal Building was evacuated mid-afternoon, with passengers instructed to evacuate into the Airport parking areas. Airport staff aided passengers as needed. The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded as Mutual Aid assistance. FWPD investigated the threat and delivered the all-clear at 4:15pm. The Airport has been deemed safe for all passengers and staff to return.

Flights continued to be accepted at the airport throughout the incident, with access to the Terminal limited. Passengers that were cleared from the terminal are being rescreened by TSA personnel, and passengers with flights later this evening are asked to give themselves extra time to arrive at the airport. Flights will continue to operate as normal.

The security threat continues to be under investigation.
