Former Rescue Mission demolition update – 6/16/2021

Rescue Mission
Demolition of the former Fort Wayne Rescue Mission is underway on June 15, 2021.

Demolition of the former Fort Wayne Rescue Mission location at 301 West Superior Street in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, is underway.

The demolition is projected to be completed the first week of July. The Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission will then construct a parking lot on the property. The parking lot will alleviate some of the parking shortage in the downtown area, especially around Promenade Park. The projected opening date of the parking lot is sometime before the Three Rivers Festival.

In Monday’s Redevelopment Commission meeting, Commissioners approved a first amendment to the Parking Facilities Management Agreement
with ABM Industries. The contract is six months old, and the agreement will run for five years. City of Fort Wayne Redevelopment staff member Joe Green reported that thus far, they are pleased with ABM’s performance. Commission President Christopher Guerin asked what the funding source is for the demolition work and was told the Local Income Tax (LIT) funds. The resolution passed, 4-0. Commissioners Jason Arp and Rohli Booker were absent.
