CTE Awareness Month Activities Planned
Graduates Will Sign On With Area Employers

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 29, 2021) – Providers of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs will observe northeast Indiana’s CTE Awareness Month in May with signing ceremonies.

Northeast Indiana Works and its partners designated the month in 2019 and inaugural signing activities were conducted throughout the region. The pandemic prevented such events from being held in 2020.

CTE programs teach specific career skills to high school students that prepare them for work after graduation or serve as a bridge to post-secondary education.

At the signing ceremonies, CTE graduates sign letters of intent to work for area employers.

Among the ceremonies planned for the region:

  • The Adams-Wells Manufacturing Alliance will host a signing ceremony at 6 p.m. May 6 at the Wells County Arts, Commerce and Visitor Centre in Bluffton.
  • Garrett High School will hold a signing ceremony at 3:30 p.m., May 13 in the Performing Arts Center and also recognize juniors who will be participating in summer work experiences. Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana secretary of education, is scheduled to speak at the event.
  • The FWCS Career Academy in Fort Wayne will hold a signing ceremony at 9 a.m. May 19 in the academy’s auditorium.
  • The Impact Institute in Kendallville will conduct signing ceremonies at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 19. Blair Milo, Indiana secretary of career connections and talent, is scheduled to speak at the afternoon session.
  • The Heartland Career Center in Wabash will conduct signing ceremonies at employer sites throughout the month of May.

“Recognition of career-focused CTE accomplishments is essential to filling talent pipelines to meet the needs of area industries,” said Northeast Indiana Works President and CEO Edmond O’Neal. “It is no less important than honoring those who have completed two- or four-year degrees.”
