Allen County pausing J&J COVID-19 vaccinations

COVID-19 vaccinations

Statement from Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Matthew Sutter regarding the pausing of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccinations.

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 13, 2021) – “The Allen County Department of Health will pause any use of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine in light of the recent recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the Indiana Department of Health. The recommendation is being made out of an abundance of caution while health officials review data from six cases of blood clots reported as possible adverse reactions out of the 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine that have been administered in the U.S. These events appear to be extremely rare, but the review and subsequent pause of its use is an example of the care and consideration taken to ensure the highest level of safety in vaccines administered. We encourage all eligible Allen County residents get vaccinated with the available Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, which have been found very effective in preventing hospitalization and death from COVID-19 with minimal side effects.”
