United Way of Allen County news release announcing the “Over The Edge” fundraising program.
Rappel the PNC Building To Help Build “Strong Neighborhoods” in Allen County
New initiative to bring mobility, security, and resources to residentsFort Wayne, Indiana (March 25, 2021) – United Way of Allen County will plan to host 92 rappelers on May 6 and 7 as they go “Over The Edge” to help raise funds for the launch of “Strong Neighborhoods”, a new initiative aimed to improve the quality of life in local neighborhoods.
United Way is looking to engage local rappelling enthusiasts to participate and pledge to raise $1,000. The rappelers will use ropes to scale down 80 feet from the eighth floor of the PNC Building in downtown Fort Wayne. PNC Bank is sponsoring the two-day event.
“Strong Neighborhoods” is a new program which will focus on removing barriers such as mobility, communication, or accessibility to allow for collaboration and relationship-building amongst neighbors. Funding for the program will provide a variety of services from transportation, health and wellness resources, financial education, and other ways to help connect residents and build stronger, safe, and healthy neighborhoods. Some of the services could provide:
- essential transportation for an individual through a rideshare program ($25 value)
- support for a father to participate in a local Fatherhood Mentorship Program ($75 value)
- a community dinner as a way to bring residents together to connect in person and listen to each other’s concerns, challenges, aspirations (up to $500 value)
- other resources to residents such as a health fair, access to financial education, leadership programs or family engagement activities and other critical neighborhood needs.
